Droppin’ Spores In S’pore
Remember to mist 3-5 times daily.
Ensure that the Grow Kit is not placed under direct sunlight or in complete darkness.
Place the Grow Kit somewhere with bright shade.
Do not put the Grow Kit in a place that gets too much wind or too little air exchange.
Wait, did you place the Grow Kit in an air-conditioned room? Take it out of there NOW! Air-conditioning dries out mushrooms! Mushrooms are like humans; if you do not create a conducive environment, they will not grow, period!
Every environment is different and part of the fun is in figuring out the balance. You can do it!
All of our Grow Kits and products are non-refundable. We test all our cultures to make sure they are contamination-free and we make our Grow Kits fresh. All our products undergo strong-handed quality control before any sales, always.Fungi are NOT plants, and should not be treated as plants. As such, one ought to consider the conditions necessary to growing mushrooms successfully before making any purchases.
In our experience, this usually happens when it is under heat stress. Move the Grow Kit to a cooler spot in the house and increase your misting. You should see improvements over the next few days.
Growing conditions including temperature requirements for all the species listed on our website are stated clearly, so read them carefully before shooting us a message.
In such instances, we highly recommend using a clean knife or scissors to remove the fruit body and try for a new fruiting. The faster you make necessary changes, the faster you will get to see results!
This depends on what mushrooms they are.
For edible mushrooms like oyster mushrooms, the general rule is to harvest them just before the caps turn upwards. So when you see the caps flattening out, it is time to harvest them! Harvesting them too early is always better than harvesting them too late, as immature fruit bodies have a longer shelf-life than over-mature fruit bodies.
For lingzhi species, the time to harvest is when the cream/white growing margins start to narrow out and darken.
Always use clean hands and tools. A wipe-down with 70% isopropyl before harvesting is highly recommended.
For edible mushrooms like oysters, a simple twist and pull action would suffice.
Lingzhi species are hard and woody, so a sharp knife or a sharp pair of scissors is required.
When harvesting the mushrooms, leave as little of the mushrooms behind and remove as little of the substrate as possible.
You may keep fresh mushrooms in the fridge for about a week if you are not going to consume them immediately. Simply put them into a breathable brown paper bag and place it in the fridge (NOT FREEZER).
For longer storage, dry the mushrooms using a dehydrator on a low temperature setting or place the mushrooms in front of a fan. Once they have dried (they should crack when you try to bend them), store the dehydrated mushrooms in an air-tight container.
Keep the container in a cool and dark place.
Each Grow Kit is productive for 2-3 flushes (harvests). After each harvest, continue your misting regime and you should see new mushrooms forming in 1-2 weeks’ time!
My second and third flushes yield a lesser amount of mushrooms than my first flush. What is happening?
Fungi are not plants, and each Grow Kit has a limited energy source. Unlike plants where you can fertilise or add compost to improve growth and yields, you cannot do this with mushrooms.
Each Grow Kit is productive for only 2-3 harvests, and subsequent flushes will produce lesser yields. Welcome to nature.
No you may not! This is not how mushrooms are grown. Using spent substrate to inoculate new substrate is a recipe for failure.
Join our workshop if you wish to learn how to grow mushrooms properly from scratch!
You can store it in the zipper bag it came with in the fridge (NOT freezer) for about 3 months. However, we highly recommend using it sooner rather than later.
The grain spawn we sell are sterile. This means that it should be used all in one sitting. Once you open the bag, the grain spawn is susceptible to contaminations.
Kindly do your own research, and plan your materials and schedule properly.
We put our cultures through stringent tests before any sales, always.
If you are getting contaminations from our liquid cultures, ask if you have done the following:
Flame sterilise the needle before inoculation
Follow aseptic techniques in a Still Air Box (SAB) or laminar flow hood
If you are getting contaminations from our grain spawn, ask if you have done the following:
Wipe down the bag and scissors you used to open the bag with 70% isopropyl alcohol
Used all of the grain spawn in one session
There are many ways to consume lingzhi. The easiest way is to make tea! Simply slice them up when fresh and put them into a pot of water that has come to a boil.
Simmer for 30-45mins, allow to cool and enjoy!
What is the dosage of fresh lingzhi?
The recommended dosage of fresh lingzhi per adult is 20g per 300ml of water.
Always consult your physician before consuming any medicinal mushrooms.
The recommended dosage of dried lingzhi per adult is 2-3g per 300ml of water.
Always consult your physician before consuming any medicinal mushrooms.
For children below the age of 12, the recommended dosage is half that of an adult’s dosage.
I am sick with cancer. What is the dosage of Lingzhi in this case?
We are not physicians, and we highly recommend consulting your physician or doctor before self-medicating.
That said, the recommended dosage for a sick person is 3x that of a healthy adult’s dosage.
The best time to drink your Lingzhi tea is after meals.
It is not recommended to drink Lingzhi tea on an empty stomach as the more sensitive may experience an upset stomach.
Always use clean hands and tools. A wipe-down with 70% isopropyl before harvesting is highly recommended.
Use hands to harvest by a simple twist and pull action, removing as little of the substrate as possible. You may also use a clean pair of scissors if it is easier.
Our live Cordyceps can be kept dormant in the fridge for a period of about 3 weeks.
However, fridges are usually full of bacteria and other contaminants, so it is also quite possible for contaminants to make their way into the Cordyceps tubs. This usually results in discolouration of the substrate. When you see greens, blacks or other weird colours, then you know the substrate is contaminated. When this happens, it is highly recommended NOT to consume the Cordyceps. Always proceed with caution as many moulds are toxic.
If unsure, toss!
We follow pharmaceutical formulations to grow our Cordyceps. What this means is that no insect hosts are used. Instead, we grow our Cordyceps on a sterilised supplemented rice substrate.Although the substrate has been sterilised, we DO NOT recommend eating or cooking the substrate as they will likely harbour contaminants especially after a period of constant harvesting. The leftover substrate can be put into your compost instead.
Unlike other subpar quality Cordyceps militaris available in the Singapore market, our potent strains are exactly that — potent! There is a difference…
The dosage of live Cordyceps per adult is between 3-5g. If unsure, always start with a low dosage and slowly work your way up.
The dosage of dried Cordyceps per adult is 1-2g.
A little goes a long way…
Boil some water.
Reduce heat and toss in the freshly-harvested or dried Cordyceps.
Simmer for 15-30 minutes.
Strain and enjoy the tea!
Yes, you can! In fact, we recommend it. They taste good, too!
Can I add some freshly-harvested Cordyceps into my salad?
We like to add very little amounts to our salads for an earthy, nutty kick.
However, DO NOT add too much as it will lead to an upset stomach. 3-5 fresh mushrooms is more than enough for an adult.
Remember — these are potent medicinal mushrooms. Do not underestimate them!
The best time to consume Cordyceps is when you start your day. Cordyceps will give you an energy boost, so consuming them in the evening or at night may cause restlessness or sleeplessness.
We find that Cordyceps gives us a clean energy boost like caffeine but without the jitters. It also gives us clarity in the head and an increase in the ability to focus. All this while modulating your immune system!
To dry out the entire block together with the mushrooms, remove the plastic and place it in front of a fan for up to a week.
You may also place the entire block in an air-conditioned room as the air-conditioning will pull out the moisture within the block.
Yes, absolutely! The Lingzhi are safe for consumption and are grown on safe wood substrate.
We grow our mushrooms using the very best pollutant-free substrates, following strict aseptic protocols. No expenses spared to ensure your well-being. We absolutely do not use any chemicals or fertilisers in our growing regime.
We are very sorry, but we are not open to the public. Perhaps in the near future!
Don’t tell you!
